Education

right2dance provides a vast range of classes via a diverse education and outreach programme, delivering dance sessions to hundreds of participants each week. Workshops are available in a wide range of dance styles and can be based on various themes to link to the curriculum. All are tailored to suit specific needs of individual groups.

Dance provides a very positive experience and enables participants to feel happier, fitter and healthier. It also increases confidence, helps improve communication with others and creates a sense of emotional well-being.

Throughout the year right2dance works in partnership with Renfrewshire Arts and Museums, school sports co-ordinators, cultural co-ordinators, sports development officers, community learning and development staff, active schools co-ordinators, head teachers and local community groups to provide varied programmes of dance for schools and community groups.

As a key provider of community dance within the Renfrewshire area we strive to ensure that our tutors provide high quality dance opportunities that are inclusive, educational and fun.

  Examples of practice

  Pre 5 Performance Project

Delivered in collaboration with Renfrewshire Council by a team of right2dance tutors, this project was a dance and training initiative delivered across 5 Paisley nursery establishments. The programme started with CPD sessions for staff, which were followed by a 12 week programme of creative dance led by right2dance tutors and nursery staff. The project culminated in a performance for the 200 young participants in Paisley Town Hall.

 Health Weeks

Throughout each year right2dance delivers workshops for health weeks at a number of schools. These sessions are always lively and energetic and include some of the following ideas:

  • Themed creative dance workshops
  • Street Dance
  • Whole school 'wake up' sessions every morning
 Renfrewshire Special Games

This is an annual event organised by Renfrewshire Council for children with physical, sensory and learning disabilities. Children are given the chance to try out a number of new sports and activities and right2dance delivered creative and street dance workshops throughout the three days.

 Scottish Workshops

right2dance has delivered a number of Scottish themed workshops for schools to tie into Burns Day and St Andrews Day celebrations. These have included Scottish and street dance fusion workshops and workshops based on the story of Tam O’Shanter.
